THE ORIGIN STORY
This Tanzania has an incredible round mouthfeel with notes of papaya and dried coconut. Mwika is a town, referred to by locals as one of the 'gateways' to Kilimanjaro. Mwika was the first AMCOS to split from the Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union in 2012. Those from Mwika petitioned the government to intervene, and were allowed to form their own group. Three groups were formed: Mwika North being the highest altitude of the three. They received training
from the TNS-backed Kilicafe project and even built their own washing station.
The past ten years have been tough though, as support from Kilicafe ended and their washing station only operated one time due to the high gas costs to get up the mountain.
Priority #1 is getting the washing station running again. In Tanzania 100% of premiums paid must go back to social projects, as determined by each individual AMCOS (coop). In this case, their washing station. As of 2018 a budget was put in place and funds were being raised. Quality coffee speaks for itself, and this coffee exemplifies that.
